Write to your MP
If you agree that the failure of opticians to provide your pupillary distance on your prescription as part of your eye test is protectionist and anti-competitive you should write to your elected member of parliament and ask them to support the Give Me My PD campaign.
It is important that you write a letter in your own words as standard form letters are usually ignored. Writing a letter to your MP is very easy and should only take 10 minutes or so.
You may wish to include some or all of the following points in your letter:
- Some information about who you are,
- a summary of the Give Me My PD campaign and a link to the ePetition (www.givememypd.epetitions.net) and Pupillary Distance (www.pupillary-distance.net) websites
- your experience of visiting opticians, how you were made to feel when you asked for you pupillary distance,
- why you think your pupillary distance should be given as part of the eye test and should not be withheld to force you to the purchase glasses in the same shop
- actions you want your MP to take; for example signing the petition, lobbying the minister for health, writing to the GOC to ask them to explain their position or anything else you think you MP should do to change this situation.
To email your letter to your MP simply click either of the links below, enter your postcode and all the contact information for your MP will appear!

Better still meet with your MP face to face..
For the first time in my life (48yrs) I decided to meet with my MP Charles Kennedy at one of his regular constituency meetings. Electronic communications are great but you can’t beat a face to face meeting to discuss issues that you’re really passionate about. Our meeting was also attended by Alan Macrae (prospective candidate for the Scottish Parlianment) and Sarah Southcott.
Read Charles Kennedy’s letter following up our meeting. Better still meet with your own MP.
